Description
First edition of this superb example of this spectacular large wall sized chart of of Africa by Jean D’Anville, the leading French cartographer of the c.18th, with an elaborate title cartouche at top right. This map when published became the key map for future map makers.
As Rodney Shirley stated D’Anville was; “a scrupulous editor of maps, continually updating their geographical content and often preparing critical texts to accompany them” (Shirley, p. 176).
