Description
Rare, large scale c.18th chart of the Pacific first issued by the French royal cartographer, Nicholas Bellin (1703-1772), showing Australia with the discoveries of Abel Tasman 1642-1644 and with additions of an imaginary southern and eastern coast from Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) to New Guinea.
Bellin first published this map in 1742 and it then reissued by the Depot des cartes et plans de la marine in 1756.
