First published edition of John Speed’s map of the county of Denbighshire, Wales with English text on verso and with ‘Sold by John Sudbury and George Humble’, lower left, identified by ‘sold…..by John Sudbury  and Georg Humble, and dated 1610’, at lower right.

Distinctive and and famous decorative map by John Speed with an inset of Carmarthen (the oldest town in Wales) and engraved by the important Dutch mapmaker Jodocus Hondius. from the first full edition (Shirley) of Speed’s atlas. There is an earlier proof edition of Speed’s Atlas issued between 1605-1610 without text on the verso and of which there are only five sets known.
