Elaborately decorated c.18th map of the eastern hemisphere showing Australia and New Zealand according to the discoveries made by Abel Tasman on his two voyages of exploration in 1642-4 and with an imaginary east coast extending from Van Diemen’s Land to New Guinea. This depiction of the Australian continent was promoted by the French School of Theoretical Geography of which Nicholas Bellin the royal cartographer was involved in and who was held in high regard.
