Description

Rare engraved of the interior of the Prince of Wales Opera House at 249 Bourke Street, Melbourne when it first opened. It was built on the site of The Varieties Theatre Comique. It later operated under the following names; Her Majesty’s Opera House (September 1884), Opera House (1887). Architect George R Johnson. It closed in 1899 and was demolished 1900.

A new theatre opened on the site on 18 May 1901, also know as the Opera House and renamed Tivoli Theatre 1914. Demolished 1967.
