Description

Rare lithographic panorama on two separate sheets of Mazatlan, a town in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, from one of the rarest of all French voyages of discovery.

After confirming the exisitence of the Alijos Rocks on 22/11/37 the Venus spent the next three weeks charting the coasts of Baja California well into the Gulf of Cortes and on 12/12/37 the anchor was dropped in Mazatlan harbour.

Rare lithograph from the official account by Abel du Dupetit-Thouars, Voyage Autour du Monde sur La Venus 1836-1839.
