Description
Barent Langenes’s famous miniature map of New Guinea and the Solomon Islands showing in detail the charting of the northern New Guinea coast and the Solomon Islands which were discovered by Mendana in 1567.
This map only appears in the 1602/3 edition of the Caert, in the 5th Book, America and is identified by the following;
1. Heading and page number on the verso, ‘Descriptio Novae Guineae et Inss. Salom’ 673
2. Title within the map, Nova Guinea et in Salomonis and page 674.
Reference:
Krogt 341:52 / (174) 2V1r-2V2r / The new engraved title page is dated 1603, the letterpress title 1602. It names Jan Jansz, of Arnhem as the co-publisher.
