Description
Rare early plan showing pastoral leases proposed for auction at Cowell, on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula dated 10th August, 1881. The land was in the Hundred of; Yaranyacka, Minbrie and Playford.
The land at Cowell was surveyed for closer settlement (the Hundred of Playford 1878) and the town surveyed and gazetted in 1880. Governor Jervois named it after a friend, Sir John Cowell.
