Important and rare early c.19th engraved view of Sydney taken from the North Shore by Captain James Wallis (1785-1858). The new two-storeyed military hospital and the tall smock-mill to the right balance the new Rum Hospital and Palmer’s Mill to the left. McCormick
Wallis was sent out with the 46th Regiment to relieve the 73rd, Macquarie’s regiment. Aboard the same ship was Jose[h Lycett artist, sentenced to fourteen years for forgery. They reached Sydney in February 1814 where Wallis was stationed until June 1816.
