Description
Edmond Bigot de La Touanne, naval officer on the Thetis expedition to the South Seas in 1824-6 commanded by H. de Bouganville. They had been given secret orders to report on the defense capabilities of British settlement. Bougainville & his officers traveled as far afield as possible. The grandeur of the Blue Mountains was so much admired by the French artists, that they declaimed it exceeded everything they had seen during their whole of their expedition.
