Description
Very rare, large engraving of the finish of the sculling contest between Bill Beach of Australia and Edward Hanlan of Canada on 16th August, 1884 on the Parramatta River. Beach won the race by one and half lengths. The crowd was estimated at 100,000, with 30,000 at the finishing line alone. A £1,000 side bet was also arranged between the scullers.
