Description
First Edition of a selection of some of the best flower paintings of the Sydney artist, Albert John Sherman (1882 – 1971). Published Sydney, Angus and Robertson, 1955. Quarto, 54 pp, 18 tipped-in colour plates. Maroon quarter cloth and green papered boards. Endpapers a slightly spotted as usual, dust wrapper in unusually good condition, one of 1000 copies.
Albert J. Sherman (1882-1971) Sherman studied at the Central Technical School in Cornwall and arrived in Australian following the First World War. He became a member of the Royal Art Society, Sydney from 1928 and established his reputation as a painter of flowers. In association with the Red Cross Flower Festival, Sydney in 1936, Sherman first exhibited ‘Peonies‘, which received special mention and was purchased by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
