Description

Very rare small map of Mornington, Victoria, dated 15th October 1875. Originally known as Schnapper (or Snapper) Point, the town was renamed Mornington in 1864 after the second Earl of Mornington.

There is an earlier issue of this map dated 1th January, 1860 with Schnapper Point spelt correctly, unlike this issue which is spelt Snapper. There are a number of additional changes in this edition;
1. The town now has  the Town Boundary delineated.
2. The word Esplanade has been moved towards the centre of the map
3. The allotment on the Esplanade between Main and Drake Street which had been allocated for the Court House Reserve is now unallocated. The Courthouse was built in 1861
4. The allotment on the Esplanade and Main Street, next to the Court House Reserve which had been allocated for the Elec. Tel Res is now unallocated.
5. Not shown is the Post Office which was built in 1863
